Halo ensures that admissions to all its facilities are appropriate for purpose, that all admissions are safe, legal and socially equitable, and that they comply with recognised national standards where appropriate.
In order to ensure that all admissions to Halo Centres are safe and appropriate, the Admissions Policy looks at age related issues on both the wet and dry sides, considers carers and legal requirements affecting bar areas and lays out health protection and dignity standards.
General Managers, Customer Service Managers and Reception teams are responsible for implementing the Admissions Policy.
All admissions must only be for purposes or activities related to the proper business of the leisure facilities.
The Management may refuse admission to any person or group where we consider they have no proper business or activity at the facility.
Dry Activities Under Eights
Children under the age of eight years may only be admitted to the facility provided, either:
- They are accompanied by a parent, carer or responsible person aged sixteen years or over.
- They are participating in an instructor-led activity.
Swimming Pool Activities Under Eights
All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent / carer or a suitable adult aged over 16 years who will go into the water with the children they are accompanying.
Whilst in the pool the responsible person should maintain a constant watch over the children for whom they are responsible and be in close contact (within arm's length) with those of their children who are weak or non-swimmers. Non-swimmers should wear appropriate buoyancy aids that fully support the child’s weight in the water and remain secure in and out of the water. Buoyancy aids that are hand held are not considered appropriate.
We advise customers to only use swimming aids that are kite marked or carry a BS EN number and are in good condition.
One adult / parent or guardian can supervise up to two children between the age of 0-7yrs.
A risk assessment has been undertaken to determine the appropriate ratio of accompanied children to responsible persons at each individual pool. Some centres may wish to increase this ratio to 1:3, a risk assessment will be carried out identifying additional control measures in place.
Instructor led activities for under 16’s
Any customers aged under sixteen attending any instructor-led or supervised class or course must provide a completed parental consent form, which should be signed and submitted at the time of booking.
Health and wellbeing
Customers are required to carefully follow all current official health guidance.
Customers who have experienced sickness or diarrhoea within the last 48 hours are not permitted to enter swimming pools, spa pools, steam rooms or saunas.
Customers must understand and comply with their commitments within Halo's Health Commitment Statement
All swimmers must wear appropriate swimwear. Clothing which is restrictive or ill fitting is not permissible. Additional garments, used solely for the purpose of swimming, may be worn over the top of a swimming costume.
Guidance on appropriate swimwear
Swimwear must be safe, clean and respect the dignity of all customers and staff. Swimming costumes should offer appropriate cover and have adequate thickness of linings.
Swimming shorts should offer appropriate cover, have adequate thickness of linings, be cut above the knee, be of lightweight material (no denim) and include a gusset.
Single gender sessions
Single gender sessions, where operated, are open to all people identifying as or living as the advertised gender.
Halo Gym users
Customers aged under sixteen years must have a Parental Consent Form completed and signed by a parent/guardian before they are admitted into the gym. Parental Consent Forms are stored at the reception.

Saunas and Steam Rooms
The following groups are particularly susceptible to the effects of heat on the body and are therefore not allowed to use the sauna or steam room:
- Children aged under sixteen.
- Pregnant women.
- Customers suffering from heart disease, circulatory problems, high or low blood pressure.
- Customers suffering an illness causing an inability to perspire.
- Customers taking anticoagulants, antihistamines, vasoconstrictors, vasodilators, stimulants, hypnotics or tranquillisers. (Customers on other medications should seek advice from their GP as to the advisability of using saunas and steam rooms.)
- Customers who suffer from migraine attacks.
- Customers with any other medical condition whatsoever should seek advice from their GP before using a sauna.
- Customers who have consumed a heavy meal or alcohol within 90 minutes.
In addition, for hygiene reasons the following customers may not use the sauna or steam room:
- Customers suffering from infectious skin disease, sores and wounds.
Elderly customers are advised not to engage in unnecessarily intensive sauna bathing.
Due to the significant risk of dehydration the use of sauna suits or other garments designed to increase perspiration are not permitted in our centres.
Our spa pools are for the use of customers aged sixteen years and over only.
A carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. The care they give is unpaid.
If you tell us you are a carer, we will accept that at face value and we’ll support you where we can.
When you take part in an activity with the person for whom you care we will not charge you an admission fee. The person for whom you care will pay the appropriate admission fee. For booked activities, please contact us in advance and we will be happy to help.

In all cases where there is a bar facility the age related conditions of the Liquor License must be observed at all times. It is the responsibility of the Licensee to ensure that this is enforced.
Halo advises all parents/guardians to ensure adequate supervision of their child(ren) when using the public open space and recommend supervision of all under sixteen’s.
A responsible person, aged sixteen or over, must accompany golfers under the age of ten years. One responsible person may accompany up to three children.
Golfers under ten years must use the red tee blocks. Golfers over ten years may use either the red or yellow tee blocks.
All other published rules of the course remain the same.
Children aged 0-7 years may enter the ‘opposite sex’ changing rooms provided they are accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 years or over.
All other people should use the changing rooms for their gender identity. For the avoidance of doubt, transgender people and those undergoing transition should use the changing room for the gender with which they currently identify.
Schools use of changing rooms
On arrival at the centre, the teacher in charge notifies the receptionist. The receptionist arranges checks to see if there are any members of the public in the changing rooms/showers.
If there are members of the public using the changing rooms they are notified that a party of school pupils will be using the facility and may be supervised by an ‘opposite sex’ teacher. They are asked to use the individual cubicles.
If the receptionist or Duty Manager feels that it is not appropriate for the school party to go into the changing rooms for any reason they ask the school party to wait. The school party is not kept waiting for more than a minute or two.
The school pupils using the changing facilities will, whenever possible, use the changing bays rather than individual changing cubicles.
Pupils are encouraged to use the toilets before their session so that they minimise unaccompanied visits back to the changing area once the session has started.
The public are kept informed where necessary when school parties are using the centre.
Birthday Party Cancellations:
If you give us more than 2 weeks notice of cancellation we’ll be happy to refund the entire booking fee.
If you cancel 8 to 14 days before the party, we’ll refund 50% of the booking fee.
If you cancel within 7 days of the party we are not able to refund the booking fee.
Halo operates a photography policy; please ask at reception for details.
Damage to or loss of property:
Halo accepts no responsibility to the damage or loss of any property, or articles placed or left in the centre or any part thereof by an individual or group attending the event.
Halo may remove, log and store any property left after the party. This will be held for 14 days, if no collection has been made, Halo may dispose of the property without further notice.
